Implementing radical changes in the education system using technology

Children are fascinated with the new age computing devices ad gadgets. When given a choice between going out to play or play a game on the software gadgets like tablets or mobiles children will often pick the gadgets. Interactive software’s are made understanding the child psychology. They are designed in a way so as to provide child a learning experience while enjoying the game.

Why is it that the education is not getting the desired attention and the institutions getting on the IT drive equipping schools with state of the art computers and technology? The main reason behind this is that the cost of these equipments is high and they require huge initial investment. Return on investments is slow and especially in education where one cannot see any marked change in the process.

The problem of the Inclusion of IT into the school curriculum largely depends on the attitude of the teachers providing education to the children in the school. Most of the time, it is the teachers who find it difficult to cope with the new set of gadgets. They are themselves not aware of their usage patterns and hence will need to go through a rigorous training process. This makes them less excited about the introduction of the technology based training at school. Even though they understand the relevance of technical education and the way it will help the students build their future, they still do not support the cause.

The school education needs a radical change to the grass root levels with the introduction and amalgamation of technology in the education process. However, even if any of the schools agree for the initial investment and upgrade their entire education system, the success of the entire process will largely depend on how well it is accepted by the teachers who have to do the major work of teaching using these modern equipments. There seem to be different opinions among the set of teachers. While some of them may agree to the change there are a lot who will disagree with it. Senior most teachers and the management staff seem to reluctant to the idea of the new changes.

Managing change while introducing the grass root technologies in the school education is an important aspect. One needs to manage it well. Even before the introduction of the technology the entire thought process for the same must be discussed with the teachers. Opinions and suggestions should be sought. Once the same is gathered they should come back to the discussion table to discuss the process of implementation and the different steps involving the teachers. This will bring them into the change process. They will then be a part of the entire change management and serve as the driving force towards implementation of the same. Teachers should be assigned different modules of the entire project and should be responsible to deliver the same within the timelines set by the committee which is again formed by the teachers. This entire process shall get into the stream of the school and each student will be seen as a successful agent of the project.
