Global Health: Does It Matter?

Global health is not as easy as 1-2-3. It is a little challenging. People are alarmed when hearing it because they find it impossible to address the world’s health problems. Yes, it is not about fever or pain. Global concerns are bigger, wider and hard to solve. This is why it takes every little effort and not only health professionals are tasked to solve it. Each citizen is obliged to extend help. Health matters and it’s priceless. You can enjoy life without wealth but not when you are sick. Global health refers to certain problems that exceed the national borders. They are mostly infectious and insect-borne diseases. When the World Health Organization warns the public not to receive any visitors from an infected area or country, it should be strictly followed. Infectious diseases can widespread rapidly. The disease carrying bacteria affects the person’s immunity. It targets the main organs. If taken for granted, the person might suffer badly. It might even lead to death.

Does global health matters?  Yes, it is not only for the developing countries but it is for everyone. It is a problem not just by a few but everybody. It is important that we address the various problems because if not, they might affect millions. For humanitarian reasons, global health really matters. A single person with aids is already a threat to thousands even millions of people. The spread of the virus is faster than you expect especially to communities with poor hygiene. Last 2005, 2.8 million people died die to aids, majority of them came from developing countries and 3 million die for TB (tuberculosis).  Both Tb and aids can affect millions of lives despite the cure. Yes, there are modern drugs, medical facilities and cures discovered. But, if we still don’t know how to apply these cures, nothing will happen.

For equity reasons, 90% of the health care resources are put on treating world’s infectious diseases. Now, if we work together to end this malignant happening, we can be sure that money and other resources will be fairly distributed across the globe. Another, instead of spending money for 10% of population infected, we can use the world’s budget for more important ventures.

In this modern world, diseases can move rapidly. They can cross nations and pose threat. So, what is the challenge now?  Health is the foundation of a better life. If health is down, life expectancy also goes down. I am not saying that it’s impossible to stop global health concerns but who knows? The best things that we can do now are to enhance the research and training about medical interventions. Another, proper budget allocations for health projects across nations and last, educating every community about.
